Week 4: Tomahawk School

These past weeks we’ve been fortunate to have the iPads in our classroom. The students enjoyed using them mostly to:

  1. Explore- we used the internet to use sites like Wonderopolis
  2. Create- we used apps like Puppet Pals, iMovie, and Book Creator
  3. Collaborate- students have been able to work cooperatively to share information and to work to complete common tasks

These are a few examples of some of the products our 2/3 class at Tomahawk has created.

We also used the iPads in our Daily 5 for students to work on word work. This was an area that I wanted to focus on particularly, as I wanted to continue to provide more options for student choice in this area of Daily 5.

In my eye there are many more positives than negatives from this experience. Students had 1 to 1 access to technology. We were able to work together in a meaningful capacity using technology. I learned alongside with my students. Often students were able to teach me how to do something within the apps that I didn’t know how to do!

There are few negatives from our times with the iPads. One of them was having to depart with them at the end of our allotted time. Another challenging aspect for me was uploading apps onto the devices using the iPad cart and the Macbook that came with it. I realized that I wanted to upload more apps onto the devices after the iPad cart had been sent out. It was difficult at first but I was eventually able to upload many more apps onto the devices.
